Pooling platforms enabled correct benefit–harm split

A shared, prospective analysis across three COVID platform trials concluded therapeutic-dose heparin benefits moderate disease but is futile or harmful in severe disease, using adaptive Bayesian hierarchical modeling to avoid misleading averages.

Hierarchical borrowing prevented dilution into null

If moderate and severe outcomes were simply pooled with covariate adjustment, the odds ratio would be near one (futility), but Bayesian borrowing with differential effects shrank estimates correctly to reveal harm in severe and benefit in moderate.

Prospective multi-platform SAP outperformed meta-analysis delay

Because all platforms signed one joint analysis plan, conducted simultaneous interim looks, and published together, conclusions were faster and less confusing than separate reads plus later meta-analysis, reducing the risk of conflicting guidance.
